Aunty Phyllis Ferreira - though this is not a new story, it's a heart warming one!! - August 2011
I had to post these pictures because I have a story to tell!! I just wanted to say thanks to my Canadian friend (who has never been to Moruca) and who heard me talking about Aunty Phyllis Ferreira - the lady with the house that is being built (?) and... she asked me to send her a pic of Aunty Phyllis and her little house - so I sent her pics we took earlier this year and told her the funny story about the drink - Steph you know that one - and she went around her workplace and in the last two days she has collected $160.00 CAD (equivalent G$32,480) - I told her we accept tooneys and loonies and quarters too lol..now isn't that a wonderful story?
I do not know the progress of the house which is being built for her unfortunately.
This lady, Phyllis Ferreira is about 85 years old and is the daughter of Jules Ferreira (Campbell?) - she is a very sharp individual and we had a most interesting conversation with her when we visited Moruca in February 2011. She lives at Huridiah, Moruca - Guyana, South America.
This money will be given to Mr. Howard Chappell, the owner of a grocery store, and Aunty Phyllis will be able to collect her groceries from there.
Vaulda Maria will be going to Moruca very soon and we hope she will be able to take this money directly to Mr. Chappell.

These items will be kept and distributed by Bernadette Gomes (Auntie Bonny) who lives a 7-10 minutes walk from Auntie Phyllis. Bonny is retired and helps with the Church and does a lot of volunteer work. This bit of groceries will hopefully keep Auntie Phyllis for a bit and she can buy fish and meat out of her pension money.
Auntie Phyllis had already received her first bag of groceries from Auntie Bonny which her son collected for her..... Vaulda tried to explain to her where the food was coming from but she only understood that it was from a friend of Auntie Dolly's sisters from Canada and she was very grateful for the help.
Auntie Phyllis is probably close to 80 yrs. She has moved over to the floored shed. Her mattress can be seen in the pic uncovered and there is no place for her clothing. Vaulda has asked the church to get some bed covers for starters of which will be taken care of by Auntie Bonny. Theo (Vaulda's brother) has kindly promised to take her a suit case so she can put her clothing in for now. Her Govt pension is Guyana $7,000 or Can $35.00 a month of which Auntie Bonny told her she can buy fresh greens and meat. Just to get a picture e.g. costing of food (keeping in mind her monthly pension of G$7,500)
This below list may last her a week or she will probably stretch it out to two weeks -
