Santa Rosa Church update - June 2012
Stephanie Walls: Congratulations, Fr. Wilian and Fr. Ruben on the completion of the Santa Rosa church renovation project.
I just received an invitation from Fr. Wilian to the opening mass on June 24th, feast of Saint John. Alas, we (Jean, Euge, Samantha) won't be able to attend but we look forward to seeing the renovated church when we visit in March, 2013. God bless. Some pictures to the right =====> the church in renovation mode and the completed church at the end. Thanks to those who contributed photos. |

thanks to all who helped...one bag of cement at a time!!!
- Angela, you and your Mom donated to the project and Fr. Wilian asked me to pass on the invitation to all the contributors to the project. Your son could represent you, if he is still in Moruca on June 24th. Thanks Angela.
- Cordial invitation to Maria V Rodriguez and family as well. Maria dedicated her vacation last August, 2011 toward hosting some events in Moruca to assist with a successful fund raising effort for the church renovation project. Thank you Maria.
- To our Canadian and American family and friends who contributed - Lisa, Gary, Lynne, Marni, Heather and Maggie. Many thanks from Fr. Wilian. To others who contributed but opted not to disclose their names, you know who you are. Thank you. You will be blessed.
- Thank you, Rowena Chappell, Bev, Kay, Dolly and Basil and all the great Moruca folk!!!!!!
- I must not forget to add a special thank you to the Moruca people, like Jimmy Campbell and others, who also contributed to the renovations of the church. I am sure that the priests will have a list of all the people who helped to make this possible. Wish I could be there on June 24th, but unfortunately, I cannot......
- Please read Jean's newsletter about the church renovation as there are a lot of people mentioned there who helped with this project. Certainly, Ovid Williams was one of the first who made a sizable donation to the church renovation fund. Thank you Ovid. Please read Jean's newsletter about the church renovation as there are a lot of people mentioned there who helped with this project. Vaulda Maria Rodriguez will be in Moruca later this month and she has a whole agenda set up for fund-raising all by herself. Well done Vaulda!!
Father Wilian has asked for help with the renovations of the Santa Rosa Church from the community and the ex-Morucans in any way they can possibly help. Cash donations can easily be sent via Western Union directly to Father Wilian (full name Wilian Montalvo Tello) and he can then go to Charity to collect. Please note his e-mail address ([email protected]) as you will have to notify him if you are sending a contribution and you MUST provide him with the code number from Western Union in order for him to uplift the money. Also, it sure will be easier for him if you write in Spanish Father speaks Spanish and is now learning to speak English. . Fr. Wilian thanks everyone for their contributions. One bag of cement costs approximately Guy $1,800.00 (or $10.00 Canadian) and the only other cost would be the Western Union fee (which varies depending on the amount – could be C$8.00 and up).
Father has said that the people from Moruca are helping with the sand (and rocks) and various wood that will be used during the reconstruction. Approximately 200 different sizes of wood will be used. This Tuesday August 9th they will have the second lot of wood that was purchased at Parika. Father said he needs 375 bags of cement in total – to date he has 7 bags. He believes in 2 weeks they will purchase the roofing and the nails. Father is also asking for many prayers as the original estimate will not be enough for the entire work as the contractor and his workers will require $20,000 US for the remodelling and reconstruction for the 3 months of work.
Your names will not be published (if you so wish) and Father will be the only person who knows that you have contributed. He has promised to keep you in his prayers. We have published the names of the above people with their permission. Please, please help Father to renovate the church in which so many of us were baptized. Thank you!!

Fr. Ruben advised the parish councellors that on the 28th August the real celebration of Santa Rosa will be celebrated with some free food of which every one had to donate and contribute. I decided that we would do a joint venture - Chowmein and Cook Up for free and the juice.
The Snacks e.g popcorn, cakes and buns along with the pepper pot & bread and curry and roti were sold at a reasonable price. We also invited the Banchikelli Group but only a few of them showed up.
We also decided we would do the Bingo since everyone wanted something to get excited about.
The Bingo portion made G$33,800.00, not bad for tickets sold at G$200.00 and G$300.00 - The early birds got tickets at G$200.00 and later the price was at G$300.00 so on average the cost was G$250.00 per card. Bonnie was the Sales person here, David James loaned us his beautiful manly voice and Fr. Ruben set up the speakers and Music set.
