My name is Regina (Jean) Rodrigues. I was born at Santa Rosa, Moruca, many moons ago and my parents are Stephen Rodrigues (Eleutherio Esteban Rodriguez) and Martina Rodrigues (nee Ferreira). Dad’s parents were Pablo Rodriguez (Papita) and Maria Atkinson and Mom’s parents were Emmanuel Ferreira and Georgina (Grandma Georgie) Ferreira (nee Pimento). I have four siblings: Elsa, Dolores (Aunty Dolly), Steph and Euge, our only brother. Steph, Euge and I have lived in Canada for over thirty years. Dolly lives in Moruca and Elsa lives on her ranch in the Rupununi.
Steph and I recently retired and we now have more time to devote to the place of our birth.
We spearheaded our first ever toy drive for Christmas 2010. I created two newsletters and you can read them on this website. The first Issue details our planning and efforts of the drive and the second details the actual implementation. We are already planning the second annual toy drive for Christmas 2011.
We would like this website (and page) to include items of interest to Morucans from Guyana and abroad. Many of our Canadian friends and family are very interested in the work we started with the toy drive and hopefully, with their help, we will be able to do more than just a toy drive this year. Perhaps we could look at a distribution of food and medicine in the future. Steph and I are big planners so we don’t anticipate that we will do more than one big event per year, but part of the plan is to put Moruca on the map so that people from all over the world can read about a small corner of a small country, where the people work hard to survive. We would like to do features on particular Morucans who day after day try to survive on little more than their sweat and hard work to feed and clothe their families. As well, I have been working on an ancestry chart, which is fascinating and I have found that all (or most of us) appear to be related to one another. I also have a keen interest in photography and would like to share some of the photographs I’ve taken, which may in turn generate some degree of tourism to the community.

Here's to a great 2017 all!!
